The Southland 7x14 14k offers one of the lightest trailers on the market and is one of the most inexpensive trailers for its size. However, being lighter and less expensive does not make it a cheaply made or designed trailer. Southland has been making this trailer since the 1980's.
The 7x14 14k sits on top of two Lippert axles where a multi-leaf spring suspension system rests under the equalizer. The frame is a 2x6-inch tube frame that is composed of two parts, one being the tongue frame, and the other being the dump box frame. This two-piece frame design allows maximum support in the frame when the trailer is loaded. The dump box itself is composed of a 10-guage floor and a 12-guage wall. The top of the side rail is made of two rough-cut 2x6 boards that are removable. Under the bed, you will see two full-length support runners that provide extra support to the underbelly. These supports are strategically placed so that loaded equipment will sit directly on top of them.
However, when you are unloaded the trailer is still super lightweight to offer you better mileage while towing empty to and from the job site. Furthermore, this lightweight design gives the Southland the largest payload capacity for a trailer of this size, payload capacity being around 12,300 pounds. On all Southland's 14k trailers standard features include the tarp kit, stainless steel ramps, spare tire mount, 10-ply tires, battery charger, adjustable coupler, 4-D ring tie downs, 14 extension pockets, stabilizer jacks, and a large lockable toolbox.
