This is a rare Civil War period Allotment Document showing that Lawrence Murphy of the 19th Regiment of Illinois Volunteers is requesting that $10 be taken from his pay for a bounty that was to be distributed to Morris Clifford. On November 29, 1863, Major General Butler wrote to the Secretary of War requesting him to authorize the payment of a $10 bounty to color recruits. It was approved the following year.
